The Nordic Centre of Excellence Programme in Molecular Medicine

The Nordic Centre of Excellence (NCoE) Programme in Molecular Medicine is a joint Nordic effort to strengthen Nordic research within this field. Despite different topics, approaches and methods, the networks have a common goal: to expand the genetic and molecular knowledge about common diseases that are causing an increasing burden on the society, thereby creating improved conditions for better treatments.

Molecular medicine is a research field where the Nordic countries have a unique advantage with assets such as extensive and reliable patient and epidemiological registries, biobanks, uniform high-level health care systems, as well as a strong tradition in genetic and biomedical research. An increased collaboration between the countries represents a joining of forces, contributing to an efficient use of the Nordic resources in order to increase the scientific quality and extent of the Nordic research and to make it more visible and attractive.

The end of NCoE in Molecular Medicine

Since last week, on June 30, 2010, NCoE has ceased to exist. Thanks to the program we have been able to promote collaborations between researchers in the Nordic countries. Despite different topics, approaches and methods, the network have had a common goal, i.e. to expand the genetic and molecular knowledge about common diseases that cause increased burden on the society, as well as to improve conditions for better treatments.

We want to end the program by saying ”Thank you and Good luck in the future” to all people involved in some way or another within NCoE in Molecular Medicine.

Have a nice summer and a prosperous year 2010!
